Our Mission
Often times when individuals come into contact with the criminal justice system, they are labeled as delinquents and misfits. The individual carries the negative stigma of being a convicted felon for the rest of their lives. The mission of Justice For All Mitigation Firm is to provide context into the clients lives and explain that crime is never the result of a one time decision and is always based on a lifetime of experiences.
Importance of Mitigation
Mitigation is a process and legal strategy that is used in defendants’ plea negotiation or at sentencing that allows clients to explain personal facts about themselves that could possibly lead to a better sentence. These facts are defined as “mitigating factors”. Mitigating factors include but are not limited to childhood abuse and trauma, substance use, exposure to community violence, mental illness, medical conditions, special education issues, family support, employment history, and socioeconomic status. Mitigation is useful in the resolution of both violent and non-violent cases, as well as felony and misdemeanor cases. The State of Florida permits the use of such mitigating factors in FL Statute 921.0026. Mitigation is not to justify a client’s actions but to provide context.
